Poems
If Tomorrow I Wake
by Jennifer Pitcock
If tomorrow I wake to find that I must
Sacrifice my own life to insure you live on,
I would wait not one moment in unleashing the flood,
Let this pen be my dagger, let the ink be my blood.
If tomorrow I find with the Angels you've flown,
And you cannot return without flesh, without bone,
I would offer a vessel, your spirit to hold,
Let this page be your body, let these words be your soul.
If this page becomes yellow and brittle with time,
And your spirit needs more, else away it will fly,
I would offer my body as home to your light--
Let my heart be your heart, let my breath be your life.
