Poems

She's There

by Jennifer Pitcock

She's there.
On the surface of every word,
In everything we say,
In everything we do.

She's there.
Waiting as a ghost lost in time.
On the shore where forgotten waters
Lay their weary rest.

Always with you.
And I can never compare to what she was
Or what she meant to you.

She's there.
In your heart,
Where I long to call my own.
A place I'll never visit,
Let alone where I'll stay.

She's there.
And I live within her shadow,
A reminder of all that she was,
And all that I can never be.

She's there.
I'm locked in the cold
And she's in the warmth of your heart.

She's there.
And I'm here alone,
Locked out of your soul forever.

She's there.
So where does that leave me?
